Wicked Ever After by Delilah S. Dawson

Delilah S. Dawson’s award-winning Blud series comes full circle as Tish and Criminy, stars of Wicked as They Come, embark on a sexy and harrowing final adventure in a world RT Book Reviews called “delightfully edgy with hidden charms.”

Ever since landing in the magical world of Sang and falling in love with dashing ringmaster Criminy Stain, Tish has been waiting for the axe to fall. Until her dying grandmother’s last breath on Earth, Tish can’t bring herself to give up her all-too human frailty and commit to life on Sang as a youthful, long-lived Bludman like her handsome husband. But when a peculiar twist of fate delivers Tish’s grandmother to Sang, an unexpected chain of events forces Tish and Criminy to embark on one last wild adventure. From old friends to new and into the lair of terrifying enemies, the couple’s love and longevity will be pushed to the brink by each harrowing encounter. Is blud thicker than blood, and can Tish and Crim find their wicked ever after?

What do you get when you take a modern day nurse and throw her accidentally  into another world, a world where Vampires live and rabbits want your blood, or in this world Blud.  It is also the world of Steampunk like cities that mimic Earth cities, like London and Paris.  It is also the story of a Circus ringleader who has fallen for a young human girl who prior to this book gave part of her life to a witch so that her grandmother would not die as fast.

This books picks up where the last three left off.  Tish, who is married to Stein, the ringmaster, is still human but is not willing to give herself over to Stein completely because of her dying grandmother.  When she realizes that her grandmother is dying, she is determined to bring her grandmother back to Sang so that Stein could change her.  What Tish did not expect is that when one is changed, it isn’t always to the same person they were before the change.  When Tish realizes this, her outlook on life takes a drastic turn.  Not a turn that Stein is completely uncomfortable with, but one nonetheless.

It takes almost no time for her grandmother to go missing, which pushes Stein and Tish to travel to Sang London which is not that different than regular London, with all of the catpurses and riffraff that you would find anywhere else.  The climax of the story is one that really made the book itself.

I really enjoy this book, I had not read the first three so there were some things, like the aging, and the necklace that I wasn’t familiar with, but the author explained enough to help guide me through without spending a lot of time on it for those who had read the first three.  I am sure that the author may talk about why it is Blud and not Blood, but for me jumping in, I was actually a little peeved at the beginning.  I know that they are interchangeable, but for me just the spelling rubbed me the wrong way.  I don’t know if it is because when I read vampire, I read “blood drinker” but since they are on Sang, another realm, I guess it could be Blud, and since no one else in the book seems to care, even Tish, I guess that after awhile I didn’t see the difference.

There are some sex scenes, and if I had the nerves, I would in a heart beat be on that gonadal like Stein and Tish.  I mean that sounds a little interesting.  Oh speaking of sex scenes.  They get a little graphic so be prepared for that.  You know the old saying “And they lived Happily ever after” well in Sang no one is happy, but you can live wicked ever after. \/”’\/
