This book was hard for me, and I will explain after I get through the customary top part.
Lily Simon’s is a 17 year old girl who is having a big birthday party. But there is more to it than that. They live in her family’s house, where geenrations have livbed. Growing up her father would always reminds her of past deeds, but never really what they were. Just to be careful.
At the birthday party everything goes sideways. In some cases more literally than others in that people start disappearing. There is a force in the house, but it isn’t just a random force, no it is one that her grandfather set upon the family.
It starts as a simple game that turns bloody and dark as Lily is forced to relive the horrors that her grandfather inflicted on a young woman.
The story ends without a finish, which makes sense now that I know it is a series. I received this as an ARC. When I read it four or five pages were exactly the same. This may be different in the final version and I am not taking fangs off. I had an issue following along with the cast of characters, which I believe is needed, but stuff happens so fast and then the scene changes that I was lost sometimes.
Overall a really good premise, and the knocking was creepy AF. I wanted more. I don’t know if I wanted more blood. Maybe more story, or more baddie on the page. I left wanting more when I put the book down. I feel that the cover could have been slightly different because it reads like a clown, which you all know I hate. But it isn’t a clown.
